General Course Administration Information

Completion of the ALPA FAST and Accident Investigation Course (AIC) is a prerequisite for ALPA Safety Representatives attending this course. ALPA Safety Representatives also require the endorsement of their respective CASC.  There are no prerequisites for non-ALPA attendees.

The Advanced Accident Investigation Course (AAIC) will act as a practical application of the associated ALPA Accident Investigation Course (AIC). It is intended to refine further the following areas of AIC: logistics involved in accident response and participation, the roles of various personnel responding to an accident, the goals of various on-scene investigative groups, and on-scene investigative techniques. This course is not intended to solve an accident but is designed to expand upon the on-scene activities identified in the AIC and prepare ALPA volunteers to coordinate better and participate in NTSB and TSB accident investigations. Upon completion of the AAIC course, attendees should be able to participate as Chief Accident Investigators, ALPA Party Coordinators, Observers, or members of a technical investigative group during an accident investigation.

Expenses, including flight pay loss, for those members being trained must be authorized from the respective MEC Committee budget. Typical expenses you should consider for your budget include:

  • Approximately $139.00 per night for hotel expenses.
  • Other associated costs for consideration would include daily meals and transportation needs.
  • If required, Flight Pay Loss (FPL) for each day of the course, including at least one, and possibly two travel days.

IFALPA and non-ALPA attendees need to seek authorization to participate in specific ALPA training courses and meetings for specific individuals by using the following procedure:

  • Please email Petra Duran-Smith at petra.duran-smith@alpa.org to start the course approval process.
  • You will receive an email with a QR code to make a payment as soon as your attendance is approved.
  • For non-ALPA attendees there may be a $1,000 registration fee to attend the course.
  • Once the payment has been finalized, you will receive an email confirming the transaction.
